SAD…I can’t stand bully’s.

Before this week, not many people heard of Karen Klein. Now this sweet grandmother has become America’s sweetheart.

If you’re one of the few who don’t listen to the news or read a newspaper, you haven’t heard about this 68 year-old grandmother from Greece, NY who has become the poster child for being a victim of bullying.

Karen Klein is the bus monitor of Bus 784 in Greece, NY. This past Monday Karen Klein who is a school bus monitor for the Greece Athena Middle School in Greece, NY sat in the back of the bus while four middle school boys verbally abused her, taunted her about her weight, attacked her family and laughed at her as they made violent and graphic threats which reduced her to tears.

Luckily one of the seventh graders who was on the bus posted a video of the bullying on YouTube which went viral. By Wednesday, the school and the police were interviewing Klein and her bullies. At the same time Karen Klein became a celebrity. America and its neighbors became outraged and have donated over $525,000 to Mrs. Klein.

It’s about time bullies are being caught. While I am sorry Mrs. Klein had to endure this, it took this video to go viral in order to get the school to take action and to wake up the world about this cruel and senseless behavior that has become an epidemic in the U.S. and throughout the world.

I would bet that had Mrs. Klein been another kid this happened to, the school would have done nothing and people would not be as outraged as they are. So while I am sorry that Mrs. Klein had to be the example, this could be a blessing in disguise.

Mr. Helms, the parent of one of the kids who participated in this horrific behavior told the news that his son made a mistake, but he feels this is going too far. He claims his family and the families of the other bullies have been threatened. While the bullies need to learn a lesson, threats are not the answer, and will not teach the bullies a lesson.

But Mr. Helms, to you and the other parents — think about how Mrs. Klein and all of the children who are bullied every day feel when they are hurt by bullies. If I were the parents of these bullies, I would be much more concerned as to where my child learned this behavior and what I could do to immediately change my child’s behavior!

I would also like to know who trains the bus monitors and why there is not a reporting system in place so that this sweet lady did not have to endure this.

Mrs. Klein said she doesn’t want to see those boys expelled. She wants a private meeting with the bullies and would like to see them banned from riding the school bus for at least a year, and not allowed to participate in team sports.

These hellions should have to do chores and errands for the next year. Hopefully the school will use this as an example for anyone who is bullied — adults or kids!

The four boys have apologized to Karen Klein via police department statements. One has to wonder if they really meant the apologies or they were forced to apologize by their parents.

This case of bullying has and should bring about much discussion among families this weekend. It’s being talked about across the globe.

Every parent should be using this as a lesson to talk to their children – even if their little darlings are the best kids in the world!
